Nonprofit Maintenance Workshop

Is your nonprofit in compliance with Illinois law and IRS requirements? Not sure? Join Lawyers for the Creative Arts as we demystify the operating and reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.

Make sure your nonprofit never misses a report by learning about filing requirements for the Attorney General’s office, Secretary of State, and IRS. And, learn what to do if your nonprofit has fallen out of compliance.

Lawyers for the Creative Arts’ program consultant, Jody Adler, will present this hybrid program. Register to join us in-person at the LCA offices at 161 N Clark or on Zoom! Jody will take questions from the audience in both formats at the end of the presentation.

About the Speaker:

Jody Adler

Jody is a skilled attorney specializing in the law of exempt organizations, with a particular focus on working alongside community-based nonprofit organizations. For over 23 years, she served as staff attorney and then as the Director of the Community Law Project (CLP) at the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights. During her tenure at CLP, Jody dedicated her efforts to developing and supporting community-based organizations in Chicago's low-income neighborhoods, emphasizing economic development and the provision of social services.

Jody was pivotal in establishing a seminar series to assist startup nonprofit organizations. She also contributed to creating publications addressing pertinent topics of concern for nonprofit groups. In addition, Jody took the initiative to coordinate a monthly small business legal clinic in North Lawndale. She developed an Employer Hotline, which offered free legal advice on employment matters to nonprofits and small businesses. Notably, Jody secured funding for Chicago's first legal services program, which provided pro bono representation to communities seeking to protect their residents' interests in the face of development and potential gentrification.

Currently, Jody is a program consultant for Lawyers for the Creative Arts (LCA). In this role, she assists the LCA staff with program planning for local arts organizations and artists, leveraging her expertise to promote the growth and success of the artistic community.

Jody's professional achievements extend beyond her role at CLP. She was honored as a former Harvard University Wasserstein Fellow and currently serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Community Loan Fund. Additionally, Jody is a member of the Mission Sustainability Initiative advisory committee at Forefront. Notably, she was appointed by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan as the co-chair of the Illinois Charitable Trust Stabilization Committee, demonstrating her commitment to preserving the interests of charitable organizations within the state.
