Legal Clinic: Evaluating Your Dispute 

with Greenberg Traurig LLP (Apply by Jan 5th)

A clinic designed to help parties understand the strengths and weaknesses of their respective positions and assess the potential range of outcomes in their cases.

(While the clinic is free, individuals and organizations must apply and be accepted to participate) 

Clinic Date: January 13, 2026 | 1:00 – 4:00 PM CT | In-Person in Chicago 


Whenever you enter into an agreement, whether it’s verbal, over email, or a formal contract, you expect the other party to uphold their commitments. What happens when the agreement is not honored? 

This legal clinic is tailored for artists or arts organizations in Illinois, offering guidance on evaluating dispute claims for a variety of agreement types, including: 

  • Employment issues 
  • Landlord-tenant issues 
  • Lack of payment 
  • Breach of contract 
  • And more 

Join attorneys from Greenberg Traurig and Lawyers for the Creative Arts for an in-person, limited-scope pro bono clinic in Chicago. Each artist or organization will be paired with Greenberg Traurig attorneys to review and evaluate their dispute. By the end of the session, participants will better understand the legal issues at play, the strength of their claims, and actionable next steps they can take either with LCA or independently.   


Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must be independent artists or arts organizations in Illinois.
  • In-person attendance is required on Jan 13 in Chicago.
  • Applicants must have a current, active dispute to evaluate at the clinic.

For Individual Artists:

  • Household income must fall within 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

For For-Profit Arts Organizations:

  • The owner’s (or owners’) household income must fall within 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
  • At least one staff member must attend in person on January 13 in Chicago.

For Nonprofit Arts Organizations:

  • Must be incorporated as a nonprofit in Illinois and in good standing with the State.
  • The organization’s current fiscal year budget must not exceed $1.5 million.
  • A board leader must attend in person on Jan 13 in Chicago.

Upon receipt of your application and determination of eligibility, LCA will contact you. Your application will then be shared with Greenberg Traurig for acceptance into the clinic. If approved by both LCA and Greenberg Traurig, you will be notified of the clinic location and other details. Please hold the date and time of the clinic on your calendar once you apply.
