Application Deadline: May 24, 2024 – (The event is free but organizations must apply, and be accepted to attend) Program Description: Does your organization have bylaws? Interested in having an attorney draft them for the organization or review the ones currently being used? LCA and the law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP are hosting a Bylaws Legal Clinic to help new organizations document the process requirements for its board decision-making that comply with Illinois law and make sense to the founders and board. Application Requirements: This is a free clinic but to participate you must apply and be eligible to attend. To be eligible you must: Be incorporated or in the process of incorporating as a nonprofit in Illinois, Have identified and have commitments from at least 3 unrelated individuals to serve on the initial board of directors, Have 501(c)(3) status or are in the process of applying for c3 status, Have at least two people from the organization able to attend a 3-hour clinic at a downtown Chicago location on June 5 from 11AM-3PM. Lunch will be provided. Participation is limited to 10 organizations. Applications are due May 24, 2024 by 11:59PM. Upon receipt of your application and determination of eligibility, LCA will contact you. At that point, we will provide the application to Katten for acceptance in the clinic. Once your application has been approved by both LCA and Katten, we will notify you about the location, etc. At that time, we will also provide you with some questions to answer or at least consider before the clinic in order to make the most of your time with the Katten attorneys. Your answers to those questions will help the attorneys draft bylaws tailored to your organization’s specific needs. Please block off the time for the clinic (June 5, 2024 from 11AM-3PM) on your board member attendees’ calendar immediately.
