Books on the Chopping Block

Celebrate your freedom to read with a countdown of dramatic readings by the City Lit Theater Company. In honor of Banned Books Week, an annual event highlighting the importance of free and open access to information, City Lit will spotlight recently banned or challenged books from across the United Sates from the American Library Association’s (ALA) Top 11 Challenged Books of 2018. City Lit has teamed up with the ALA in celebration of Banned Books Week since 2006, performing at special events, libraries, and bookstores in and around Chicago. Join us for a captivating performance plus themed snacks, prizes, and an opportunity for discussion.

One of the excerpts performed on Friday will be from Jill Twiss’ A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, produced in association with HBO’s Last Week Tonight w/ Jon Oliver. You can learn more about this book and others that have been challenged here: https://hyperallergic.com/494215/john-olivers-mike-pence-parody-among-top-banned-books-of-2018/
